At long last, I was taught otherwise. Thai music has much more than only คาราบาว! Terrific pop rock! I had to listen ท่านผู้ชม two times consecutively.
Fantastic, now I know even you knew carabao. (they are still currently active, at least the leader made a tsunami song a couple years ago.) Thai younger generations nowadays can't quite recall their songs anymore other than the song that simply recites the auspicious full name of the Thai capital. They represent the forgotten generation of hippies in the 80s (and the history of student protests and bloodshed with it).
Anyway, to tell you the truth, I used to hate thai pop so much, thinking they were all trashy and shallow, lacking in style and content, full of "good-looking" artists with no musical talents. (that's still true to some extent, and probably applies to other cultures as well.) But I guess time has changed in the past few years, in terms of cultural proliferation and liberalization.
