Flure

I listened to Flure's Q in the theme song for the film "Love of Siam" and then was drawn to this alternative rock artist. I think the vocalist has a pretty unique voice. The style is not very catchy at all, but i think the melody has some hypnotic beauty and full of power.

Thai indie

Here are Tattoo Colour and Scrubb with their mixed idiosyncratic pomo rock style. They sound easy and passing atmosphere of a Bangkokian pub-restaurant of the young. I first encountered Fah (Tattoo's most popular song) on the bus just the day before I flew out of Bangkok to Berkeley. It was love at first hearing and then I googled the band from my fragmented memory of the lyric. I thought the vocal is quite awesome with his jazzy style and soon found out that the guitarist (Ruzzy) is also really talented and can really sing. (the vocal once gave a comment that the band could have only Ruzzy if he had ten arms because he composed and arranged his songs and could play any instrument). Anyway, the reason I like this band very much is probably because they capture the sensibility of the Thais of my age (and they are same years as mine).
The other band is Scrubb. I can't tell what their style is, but i like the fresh sound of acoustic guitar mixing with some instruments. somewhat like Brit pop, maybe?

Thai music: OST. Love of Siam

After hearing so much hype about this new coming of age Thai movie on thai webboard, i started listening to the soundtrack and totally fall in love with these songs. now they made me really want to see the movie. but it definitely should take many more months before i possibly can. it does look like a good movie--plus i heard the story is unusual, at least in the context of thai cinema, and has stirred varied emotional reaction from the audience. To me these songs, while being regular pop songs, sounds strangely hypnotizing, like they are telling a story.

Monkey Majik

I just found out about this rock band on YouTube. I think they are really wonderful, really my style, both on their original songs and features with other artists, such as Yoshida Brothers or SEAMO or even Bennie K, very diverse.
And they are mixed Canadian/Japanese band, makes them even more interesting. Especially the two leading Canadian brothers who also speak fluent Japanese, just too awesome.
